Young lives, 31st anniversary and outing to Genadendal

"Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth . . .Ecclesiastes 12:1"

In the past two weeks, in addition to the discipleships, Bible institute, visitation, school ministry, and services, we also had two youth meetings, an overnight getaway to celebrate our 31st anniversary and a church outing to the oldest mission station in Africa at Genadendal. Yes, we are still catching our breaths!

On August 13, our youth met at our home for an evening of games and a challenge from God's Word on "Wisdom's Invitation" how to arrive safely at the right Destination. This past Friday, we attended the monthly meeting with Pastor Kevin Simpson's youth at Immanuel Baptiste Kerk in Eersterivier, the work God allowed us to plant between 1993-2007. The gospel message was hard hitting on the brevity of life with the recent tragic accident in Eersteriver between a train and taxi in which 10 school children died. Probably half of the young people at these meetings are yet unsaved.

Some of the youth with whom we are building relationships as they attend our services and our youth meetings are 18 year old Tracy, 17 year old Bradley(farthest left), and 18 year old Mgoduse (shown in a previous posting).

On August 14, I had the joy of sharing the gospel with Oriel's 11 year old sister, Britney. She trusted Christ at our kitchen table that afternoon. Pray for her growth.

Our 31st anniversary was on August 19. We celebrated by taking a day off to travel 4 hours north of us to the Hantam where the karoo blooms each winter. This year's show of flowers was not spectacular, but we had a wonderful time being together enjoying the various beauties of the creation: snow dusted mountains with flowers in the foreground; a waterfall; and the largest Quiver tree (Aloe dichotoma) forest in the southern hemisphere. We enjoyed overnighting at this rondavel on the farm with the Quiver tree forest. God has been very good to us.

Yesterday, ten of us from Eindhoven traveled 1 1/2 hours east of Cape Town over Sir Lowry's Pass to the historic mission station established by Georg Schmidt in 1737. Our host and hostess, Dr. and Mrs. Isaac Balie made it a very memorable and blessed outing for our believers from Eindhoven Baptiste Kerk. We always go away from Genadendal challenged by the examples of those who faithfully laboured in this country centuries before we came to labour in their footsteps.
We are continuing teaching at the schools each week, but the teachers' union mass action strike is affecting learner attendance. Pray for a settlement soon as the learners' education is suffering.
