"Keep your heart with all diligence . . . .Proverbs 4:23"
Living in Greenville these past 5+ months has allowed us to store up in our hearts some special memories with our grandchildren. A couple of weeks before Valentine's Day, we took Jake and Noelle to the South Carolina Children's Theater to hear a presentation of Miss Nelson is Missing. Afterwards we had ice cream together.
On most Mondays Noelle and Isaiah spend the mornings with us while Jake attends a homeschool co-op with his mother. Recently when Isaiah was sick, Granddaddy was to help with the nebulizer treatment.
For Christmas, Clare gave us a two-night stay in Savannah, so the week before Valentine's Day we had a wonderful time to be together in this lovely old city. Amy and Rob kindly cared for Mama.
We spent an entire day walking through Savannah's many parks. We saw the many memorials to individuals who had played important roles in Savannah's history. This memorial at Christ Church mentions John Wesley and George Whitefield. How important to keep the memory of such godly men's lives in our hearts.
Both of these men were past rectors of Christ Church, which was established when Oglethorpe founded Georgia in 1733. They both preached the theme of the necessity of the new birth.
On February 12, we were able to wish Mrs. Dorothy Lewis (in red sweater) a happy 98th birthday at a tea at our home. She still faithfully remembers to pray for GFA missionaries. Her late husband, Marvin, was the director of GFA when we were accepted as missionary appointees in 1986.
A number of the GFA home office staff were able to take a few hours off and join us for tea. Janie Allamon, GFA receptionist, helped me serve the birthday cake.
We enjoyed quiche, chicken salad pitas, sour cream coffee cake, fresh apple cake with cream cheese icing, pumpkin muffins, and pink cupcakes. Yes, we girls enjoy "tea!"
On Valentine's Day, I surprised Tony with a table-for-two in the basement so that we could have a little breakfast date.
That evening, Amy and Rob and the children brought over a delicious Valentine's Day dinner complete with chocolate cake, fresh strawberries and cream. Our hearts (and tummies!) ended the first half of February very full and blessed.
